Crude sulfur, black in color, contains mechanical impurities and various organic components. Due to its low purity, it cannot be directly used as a chemical raw material and is treated as waste.

Qualified sulfur, with a purity of over 99%, is an important chemical raw material, mainly used in sulfuric acid production. It is widely applied in industrial and agricultural fields, especially playing an indispensable role in rubber manufacturing.

It is obvious that refining crude sulfur into qualified sulfur not only solves the factory’s environmental protection issues but also brings considerable economic benefits, making it a win-win solution.

After two years of R&D, our company has developed an environmentally friendly and safe intensive deep processing scheme for sulfur, in line with national environmental protection requirements.

2. Sulfur purification Main Process Principles

① Melting Operation: Block crude sulfur is fed into the melting furnace and melted into liquid.

② Gasification Operation: Liquid crude sulfur flows into the gasification furnace, where it boils and gasifies. Sulfur vapor is then condensed into liquid sulfur through a condenser. This step separates crude sulfur into gaseous and solid fractions: the solid fraction includes mechanical impurities and carbon components from thermal decomposition, while the gaseous fraction consists of sulfur vapor, water vapor and hydrogen sulfide.

③ Condensation Operation: This step condenses condensable gases into liquid, mainly converting sulfur vapor into liquid sulfur. Circulating water is used as the heat exchange medium in the tubular condenser to cool high-temperature gases.

④ Vapor-Liquid Separation Operation: A vapor-liquid separator is used here. Qualified liquid sulfur is separated and flows into the finished product tank, while non-condensable gases are diverted to the tail gas treatment system.
